It’s that time of the year again!
If you are a cinema fan, you will know what I am talking about. That’s right; exactly one week ago, Tuesday 14th marked the beginning of the 72nd edition of the International Festival of Cannes.
This year’s annual film festival takes place from May 14th to May 25th and is featuring films from all around the world.
Every year, Cannes holds the most important film festival. The festival’s main goals are to maintain the development of the cinema around the world and to celebrate the cinema at an international level.
The most eagerly-awaited part of the festival is of course the famous red carpet and “montée des marches”. The tradition is to scrutinize every celeb's outfit style and hair & makeup choice.
Before the annual event, the selection committee travels the world to discover the most promising directors , films, and actors to present at the festival. During the selection, the movies are separated in different awards categories.
The most prestigious awards are: the Palme D’Or, the Un Certain Regard price, the Prix du jury and of course the best male and female actor price.
The Feature Film Jury, composed of Kelly Reichardt, Elle Fanning, Maimouna N’Diaye, Alice Rohrwacher, Enki Bilal, Robin Campillo, Yorgos Lanthimos and Paweł Pawlikowski will judge the movies and assign the awards.
The closing ceremony will be held on May 25th. For most of us who are not in Cannes right now, we will still be able to watch the ceremony as it will also be broadcasted and will be available to watch on the internet.
Finally, the festival pay homage to the famous filmmaker Agnes Varda through the poster choice and at the opening ceremony when the Belgium singer Angele sang “Sans toi” written by the famous filmmaker herself.
The selected movies to compete are, among others, The Dead don’t Die, Les Miserables, The Climb, and Bull.
This year the most impressive looks so far are:
Elle Fanning in her impressive pale dress and gorgeous makeup.
Natalia Vodianova in her scale-like beige dress.
Bella Hadid in her beautiful long red dress
Sara Sampaio with her beautiful silver dress.
Kendall Jenner in her white see-through dress.
It seems like this year's theme is mostly long dresses and it is beautiful.
